livin on a prayer..

So, last night i was driving back to logan after my big sisters bridal shower dinnerish type thing..
And it was late. and I was sleeeeepy.
And the canyon had never been so sucky. EVER.
Iwas slushy and snowy and windy and WHITE. and i literally couldnt see anything.
I tried to stay calm, so i mumbled a little prayer that i wouldnt die..
because thats the only thing i could do because i was freaking out so bad.
(it was either saying a quick prayer or imagining what my obituary would look like. really. it was that bad.)
anyways, i was livin' on a prayer, if you will.

a few minutes after i muttered the prayer...
the ipod connector stopped working and the song playing stopped.
whhhhhheeeeeeiiiiiyyyyerrdd.
it usually just turns an annoying tone of fuzzy until i turn the whole thing off out of anger, ya know?
wanna know what song came on out of the blue loud and clear though through the radio waves right then?

"ohhhhh we're halfway there ooOOHHHH livin' on a prayer!"

i giggled.

Someone upstairs must have a sense of humor.

Goodbye Finals.. Hello Holidays!

FINALS ARE OVER!!!

I studied harder than I ever have in my whole 19 years of living. It was absolute muckduck. But the 10:00 finals howl in the library last night was pretty funny... all the kids going crazy in the Merril Cazier went out into the lobby and 'howled' for five whole minutes. I love aggie traditions.

Fact: i love catching my friends sleeping under library tables during finals week.

It was -10 degrees outside this morning, and I had to wait for the bus at 7:00 a.m. Don't worry though, me and heather somehow missed the first bus.. walked back to our apartment to scrape her car off.. saw another bus approaching our stop and SPRINTED to our bus stop across the icy street. All i could think of was slipping on the ice, breaking my back, and not having to take my final this morning. But alas, I did it. I think I did quite well.

This just in: I failed my math final i took a few days ago.. because Mr. 9 &3/4(he only has half a thumb on one hand) doesnt teach. he just shows us magic tricks. (Dude, whats with me getting screwed with professors? First, i had Yi Hong the ENGLISH professor who had never been to america, second.. the math teacher who can't add. awesome.) So i studied so hard for a week straight, and still failed. but don't worry, im not SUPER stupid, the class average was 50%. Though i usually blame my unfortunate experiences on outside factors, this one is legit. He sucks at his job. So, whatever. I still passed the class, life will go on, the sun will still rise, my mom still loves me. whoooo cares :)

When i was riding the aggie bus home this morning, 'chestnuts roasting on an open fire' came on the radio and i almost shed tears of sheer joy. No more cramming. No more library. No more of my butt falling asleep from sitting too long. I'm homeward bound. :) Next up: going to work for my hospice patients again, christmas, my 20th birthday, and new years eve. I feel like doing something irrational. like.. buying a puppy. don't tell my dad!

HOORAH!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS! EVERYONE!

click click click

this just in: typing REALLY, unneccessarily loud drives away unwanted library bubble-poppers.

muahahahha. happy holidays.

Count Rugen..You pulled a fast one on me!

So I have a ballroom class every tuesday and thursday that i absolutely LOOOOOVE. its so great. And way fun. We rotate partners all throughout the class, and have been all semester. (though i have this one friend who i particularly like dancing with because he 1. Leads 2. Isn't sweaty 3. Doesnt smell..and 4. We dance really well together. and yes, he is JUST a friend. This actually has nothing to do with my post. Sorry.) Anyways, the other guys in the class are socially awkward..which is to be expected in a beginning ballroom class. One has very long greasy hair who only wears hawaiian shirts but is so nice, one smells so awful that I only breath through my mouth when I dance with him, one has hickeys on his neck constantly...they are nice boys but they never have rhythm and they never have good hygene.. bless their hearts.

So anyways, we are rotating during the west coast swing, and I start dancing with this one boy. With west coast swing, you don't do the traditional ballroom dance hold, its only a one hand hold kinda thing. So I'm used to one hand on the guys shoulder, his hand on my back, our other hands in an upright position, right?

So there we are, me and this boy.. lets call him Vern*(name is changed. actually, I don't even know his name.) We are doing the west coast swing, and as we are doing a sugar push, we have to tap left hands, kind of like a high five position kinda thing. And as I am approaching him, i notice that on his left hand, he has six fingers. yes he is the SIX fingered man. an extra phalange. two thumbs on one thumbspace. with two thumbnails. finger eleven, if you will. and my brain goes, "VERN HAS AN ALIEN TUMOR THUMB ON HIS HAND AND ITS INEVITABLE THAT I'M ABOUT TO TOUCH IT" and I tried to hold back my shock. Want to know why I was shocked? I'VE BEEN DANCING WITH HIM ALL SEMESTER!!!!!!!!! How did I not notice that I've been holding the hand of a six fingered man? Maybe because its the first dance position that isn't ballroom-ish..but I mean.. Cha Cha we had regular hand holds? I don't know how I missed this extra detail! As i quickly averted my eyes, i started thinking: I wonder if Vern's sixth fingernail grows like the rest of his fingernails. I wonder if he can move his sixth finger, and if it is advantageous to him.. I wonder if he is a super fast texter or a really good typist or I wonder if it just sits there like a limp noodle? It was kinda like this, but on his thumb:

As I am holding back my shock/curiosity, during a break.. he suddenly whips out his phone and starts texting. I almost started rofling and had to stare at my shoes while I held back a fit of shaking giggles. (Note* I was not giggling because this poor boy had three thumbs. I was giggling because I could not believe that I did not notice that i've been dancing with him for months and have not noticed). For some reason, I danced with Vern for most of the class, because our instructor forgot to tell us to switch partners. It was hilarious.

Count Rugen from The Princess Bride= Count Vern The Sixth Fingered Boy.

Please Meet: Nadeene

So, i have this friend. she is a little girl actually and she is really, really fat. and she lives inside of me. Sometimes, like over thanksgiving weekend and after other major holidays, she comes out to taunt me and she makes me gain 6 pounds in 2 days. Lets call her Nadeene. She looks something like this:

Nadeene is terrible. She has been coming out of her shell lately and its really starting to piss me off..She makes me the kind of girl who is sitting in her bed at 1 in the morning with nutella and pretzels...who is feverishly licking the chocolate off her fingers from dipping deep into the hazelnut spread so that the greedy little fat girl inside of me can get every last bit of chocolately pleasure. and then..i look down and realize i've consumed a whole jar of nutella in less than 12 hours. and i am ashamed. and she is victorious.

And THEN.. she does stuff like throw things in my cart when i'm grocery shopping!! She does it sly so i don't notice. I imagine its sorta like a grab-and- toss-behind-the-back kinda thing. So there i am at the checkstand and all these items are embarrassing me because only a CHILD would live off of them..and nadeene is very pleased inside. very, very pleased. pleased because the checker thinks that i have a goal of reaching 250 pounds, and pleased because she has won. This is serious business folks.

The fat girl inside me MUST be stopped! Operation starvation is starting! (not really starvation, just operation eat at LEAST one healthy thing a day to replace all the chocolate i consume. starvation just rhymes well.)

strange weekend

this weekend has been odd. and really sad actually.

-I haven't done hardly any homework today.. which is really strange.

-USU lost to BSU in front of anyone in the U.S. who watches ESPN. hahahaa. we are awful and we always will be. God bless the true blooded Aggies! Dream big football team, dream big.

-I got an e-mail from my friend in Afghanistan! I'm glad I'm only hearing about his problems with the sand and not gunshot wounds. Thank heavens. I can only imagine what he's been seeing lately.

-I just went to the grocery store and got chocolate milk, sunny d, pomegranate juice, and a huge jug of water. dehydrated? i think so.

-A perfect little jar of Nutella somehow jumped into my cart again. I dunno how it happened.

And worst of all..
-A 19 year old boy died last night in my apartment complex. They don't know what happened either, they think it was a heart attack..and the police already ruled out drugs and alcohol. He was supposed to pick someone up but never showed, so his parents tried to phone him all day. They finally got a hold of his roommate and asked the roommate to see if he could find their son for them. His roommate walked into his room and found him dead, lying in his bed. Apparently he was there all day and no one noticed. No one noticed that he had died. All day. He was in my ward, but no one really knew him or who he was. How pathetic is that? That we don't know if he was a member or not or if he just didn't come to church often or even who his friends were? Its been hurting my heart all day. For his roommate who found him, for his friends, and especially for his family who won't be having their son home for thanksgiving this weekend :(

strange weekend.

And the tool award goes to..

Jersey Joe!!

So there he was.. perched in a position straight out of a bad 40's mystery movie. i'm surprised he didnt have a fidora on and spyglass in hand.

He was leaning up against the counter.. one leg crossed over the other, leaning on his elbow, head tilted to the side. As i washed dishes at the ward activity.. WARD ACTIVITY i tell you..i hear this:

Joe: So.. are those jeans from buckle?
Me: ..Walmart.
Joe: Oh.
Me: I shop there.
Joe: Oh.. well uh, these are from buckle. (checks himself out)
Me: (blank stare with long, angry pause)........Was that SERIOUSLY your pick up line?

really!? if you're going to hit on me, don't EVER do the leg-crossed-head-tilted-leaning-on-the-counter move. and don't EVER use a pick up line about where i got my jeans EVER again. Congratulations Joe from New Jersey, you have just proved yourself 100% stupid and a total tool.

visit to the grandparents...

we went to the grandparents house last night..andddd it was one of the funnier visits. my grandma and grandpa knew eachother when they were little kids, so they grew up together. they dated in highschool then got married after that.... but hearing the stories that they tell about eachother are priceless. especially when my grandma adds in snippy little comments that my grandpa ignores with a wave of the hand. gotta love it. also gotta love when my grandpa talks about those "evil left wing commies".

grandma: "You were meaner than tar when you were a little boy!!!"
(grandpa thinks for a moment with a smile on his face.)
grandpa: ".... i was." (belly laugh)

also.

when asked to grandpa... "who was your first girlfriend?"
his reply..
"Grade school i was smitten with Sally Hawkins. She lived in Edgemont so it went nowhere. In the 7th grade, it was Bonnie Evans. She moved. No one serious after that till Mary. We sat next to eachother in Iva Reynolds english class."
(if you know my grandpa.. somehow thats funnier.)

(my grandma claims he started pulling her pig tails in class...but grandpa denies it. then they later fell in love. Gilbert Blithe anyone?) cuuuute old people!

today as i was in a rush to get to class on time, i stopped by the bathroom. i realized something was wrong when it smelled reaaalllllly funny in there..i had been to this bathroom before but it seemed alot smaller today. then i saw a man walking towards one of the stalls. ummm straight up walked into the mens bathroom. i put my head down, left shamefully, and prayed no one saw me.

curse my life.

awwkk

sooo yesterday i was in the car with some friends and then their other friend that i didn't know.. he was a nice boy named sam. well, we're driving and someone pulls up right next to us and sam goes, "hey i know them! roll down your window!" so i do.. and they say their hello's..and the guy in the other car was holding a thick black stick, so...still being stopped at the stoplight i ask.. " dude why do you have a police stick?" and the friend in the other car replies to me with only a confused look. then sam informs me... "uhhh.. thats a hookah pipe." (yeah.. for drugs.) awkward. shows ya how much i know about the streets. my bad.

a comical snack

okay.. funny things this week.

i was driving back to logan today.. minding my own business and listening to the wicked soundtrack.. when all of a sudden i see a cop on the other side of the freeway stalling traffic. i drove past.. and i saw this little bike.. and im like shoot. why would a little girl be riding her schwinn across the freeway? then i hoped i wouldnt see anything horrible like an accident or something gross. so i drive up a little closer.. and see a policeman on the side of the road.... trying to dodge getting rammed in the crotch by a goat. im not kidding, it was one of the funnier moments in my life.

okay. okay i dont know if i tell you about my professor from 'chiner' who move here three week ago and never been to the states before.... but yaaaaaaaaaaaaa. we have to explain to her what nick names are..and what markers are.. and so forth. well anyway, in her class, she puts on chinese love songs and makes us write out our feelings about the song. as she was pulling up the tunes from chiner this week, i glimpsed at her playlist. ya she definately had 'like a virgin' by madonna up on the overhead board for all the class to see. awkward because i could totally see her jammin out to that. wayyy awkward.

also.. we got four goldfish to add to our humble home, and megs decided it would be okay to feed them a ritz cracker. spice up their diets a bit. they all were dead by the next morning. not belly up, but nose down with their tails waggin around in the water like they had a weight in their mouths. possible salt poisoning.

there is this boy in my shakespeare class who looks like david hasslehoff with rosatia and another who is one of those kids where you cant believe some of the things that come out of his mouth. his quaff is out of control. if i could immitate darrins laugh, i would. AH HU HU HU HU AH HUHUHU HU HU. i dont mean to be mean.. im just venting. i wanna drop that class every single time the tries to sit by me. so convieniently, i switch my grandmas ring onto my left finger and try to flaunt it every time he tries something. it works.

last but not least.. my date from hades. its a blindish date.. hes an RM so i thought he'd be more legit than some of the idiot freshman i've been hanging out with. no bueno, not legit. first of all, there was no attraction. if you know who manny is off of the movie 'ice age', there was a frightening similarity there. second of all, he was flirting with other girls on OUR date and we werent even sitting by eachother at the bowling alley and it was so awkward. third of all, he tried to extend this horrible date by watching a movie at his house. my roomate megan, bless her heart, called and said she got locked out of the apartment and i needed to come home. he said, 'oh i can just drop you off real quick then we can go back and finish the movie..' obviously he didnt get it. so we head back to my car, this time on his HARLEY..and conveniently cross the path of a truck spraying pesticides down the roads of logan. this is how the conversation went.
him: "aahhh duuuude. that stuff is poison!"
me: "what.."
him: "yeah man its like sooo bad for you. DONT BREATH K HERE WE GO"
me: (angry face.)

so we drive through the infected pesticide roads, and my eyes are burning so badly from the poison whipping in my face that i have dry poison tears running down the sides of my cheeks. we got to my car and i said.. im just gonna head in for the night, k BYE.

so i got home around eleven, smelling like poison and pesticides and deciding to never date again. ever.

the brain.. the brain.. the center of the chain

so there i was, flipping through channels.. when i stumbled upon abc family. i thought i recognized this show, but wasnt sure.. it was of some girl taking a test, and had all these good luck charms sitting on her desk.. i.e.. a rabbits foot, a horseshoe.. a starfish? anyway.. as she begins to tap her pencil.. she starts to chant.. 'the brain, the brain, the center of the chain..'
holy cow, blast from the past. blast from the past as in begging my mom to run to hollywood video and rent this movie, blast from the past as in wishing i was asian because of one of the main girls on that show was, blast from the past as in wanting to change my name to Dawn, and blast from the past as in wishing with everything i had that i was thirteen. "thirteen!?!?!? thirteen!!!"

yes, the babysitter's club. i got so excited i almost peed my pants, and sat there on my moms bed, alone, having a moment. and laughing at all the funny things they said and texting all the quotes to my sister. whenever i'd pretend to cry when i was little, i remember always wanting to say, 'its just an allergy! its an allergy okay!?!?' and i also wanted to catch some mean girl from my school in wet cement and have the only evidence her gray, spray painted sneakers. and i remembered making my friends in kindergarten all put their head in a circle like in the beginning of the movie. hahhaha. most of you wont even understand this blog except for my sisters. but it completed my heart to watch that show.

nananananannana batman

this is paul being a creepster joker. people were camped out for DAYS for this.

so..seeing batman was the highlight of my week. and im not a movie person really... it was a plus because:
1. christian bale was either in church clothes or his bat suit.
2. heath ledger stole my heart as a killer sociopath
3. maggie jillenhall whoever wasnt even that cute in the movie, which makes me feel great about myself.

christian bale makes me swoon. mother may i. but really, every five seconds this movie would make some drastic change and i'd gasp everytime it happened. im quite sure my cute date was pretty annoyed at me by then. such a dark and twisty movie i LUH it and i want to marry it.
me and scotty.. (best math class crush ever!)

also, i saw everyone from my highschool at the premiere annnnd wanted to die. there are a select few i love. theater kids, and a few others. this nice boy scotty who took me. but mannnn im glad i'm outta there. anyways, basically all i'm trying to say is heath ledger (rest in heaven) can kidnap me anyday and i'll gladly let christian bale swoop down from the rooftops in his tight batsuit and rescue me.

jazzy!

i just remembered this.

when i was frantically shopping for cameras last week, an old man in a jazzy came up behind my while i was examining some sony cameras. i turned around, and he was dressed in tan pants from the 60s way too tight for him, (kinda like my great uncle kents) and a blue trucker hat. he stopped his jazzy and said,
"thats a nice camera.."
i smiled...
"not for me though, i like my fuji!!!"
and he looked straight ahead,i swear he crouched his head down like he was racing, and zoomed away. i dont know why this was so funny to me, but it was. it reminded me of that commercial of that old woman in the grand canyon spinning in her jazzy, saying with an echo,
"JAZZY! JAZZY! jazzy! jazzy!!!"

tetherballs and fish.

so today during childcare, we took a little walk to the park. after telling the children not to pick up the rolly pollies, and to get off peoples lawns, we arrived at the playground. one of the little girls, jackie, went over to the tether balls and started playing. i played with her, and remembered how awesome i used to be. i hit it, and it accidentally hit her in the head. when i walked away, i looked back and saw her purposefully hitting herself in the head with the tether ball, and giggling at herself. when i went back, she told me to 'do a high one'. so i then proceeded to do an illegal bottle cap. yes, they are illegal in the game of tetherball. sure enough, it brought me back to the days of glenmoor elementary. i remember many times getting hit in the face, and running to the school nurse, Mrs. Dung, for ice (seriously.) when really it didnt even hurt that bad, it really just was a slap in the face and a hard hit to my 8 year old ego. i just wanted to ice bag to suck on because it was hot outside.

also, today i went fishing with my best friend alexa. she caught 6, and i caught 4. all of a sudden out of nowhere, come two attractive cowboys, when sure enough, i catch another one. as their horses are approaching, im reelin it in hard but am trying not to fall in. as they come by, they say, "we can wait.." and i stupidly say, "oh its ok dont worry about it." then they said.. "umm watch out.. your fish is tangled.." i look over, and my line is caught in a little bush, with my fish tangled up and banging its head on the sticks. embarassing, i know. even more embarassing though, was when a few fisherman asked me what bait i used, but i didnt hear them, so i just said. "we caught ten." then they repeated the question, which i didnt hear, and said, "rainbow." they looked at me awkwardly, and i said, "K have fun BYE!"

embarassing moments define my life.
